Carbon XR Finish Options

Wednesday, February 12th, 2014

The production Carbon XR LS7 Intake Manifold can be configured many different ways. It can fit a standard deck or tall deck block engine without using spacers to mount to the heads. Simply let us know when ordering and it will come with the appropriate brackets. While most of our intakes have throttle flanges for the GM 90mm 4 bolt throttle, we can custom machine a different flange if you need to use a different throttle body. When it comes to finishing the intake to perfectly suit your special project we offer a number of color and surface finish options.

1) Runners can be raw carbon, polished carbon or UV clearcoat gloss finish.
2) The plenum has a little high level of natural carbon polished gloss due to its manufacturing method and often passes as having been painted. We can however add gloss UV clearcoat for protection from the sun and a slightly higher level of gloss.
3) The billet head, plenum and throttle flanges can be anodized nearly any color imaginable. While it is not as precise as paint, if you have a target color our anodizer can try to match it as closely as possible. We typically stock black and red flanges, however special order options offer blue, orange, yellow, gold, green or purple. We can also polish the billet components as an option.

If you have an application that receives high exposure to sun or other UV light you need an automotive grade UV clearcoat on your carbon and anodized aluminum to prevent ambering the epoxy and fading of the anodizing. Our most popular combinations are polished or UV coated runners with polished out of mold plenums on black anodized billet. Combined with an appropriate engine bay it looks sinister. If you want your engine bay to be a setting for a beautiful jewel then anodized billet can accent the body color of the car.

Job Opportunities

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Two upcoming projects are in the planning stages – one would probably be contract direct with a client (greenlighted) and the other would be through Performance Design on a different client project (expected to be a go – but pending confirmation); opportunities may exist to work on both projects.  Both projects are powertrain/engine design in nature and include heavy modifications to existing architecture as well as clean sheet design.  If you or anyone you know might be a good fit please contact me or forward this information to them.  Any references would be much appreciated.

Both projects will last 6 – 12 month and we are looking for someone that can do full time (or close to it) but will probably need extra capacity beyond that and will consider a mixture of talent/schedule availability in case anyone moonlights.   Both are tentatively scheduled to begin in 4-8 weeks.  Most work would probably be completed from your own location/home/office but periodic meetings or off-site work may be required.  Weekly design reviews will occur via Webex or Fuze meetings.

All work will be in SolidWorks 2010.  Candidates must have a good solid modeling base, an understanding of engine components and how they would be manufactured; no training is available in this project.

·         Must have a knowledge of engine components and operation

·         Must understand manufacturing processes and designing for manufacture/assembly

o   Components will consist of castings, forgings, machined

o   Components include all engine parts including block, heads, rotating assembly, accessory drive, etc.

·         Candidate must have experience in operating 3D CAD system and a good modeling workflow (SolidWorks Preferred)

o   Must at least be skilled in solid modeling and be familiar with SolidWorks; expert SolidWorks knowledge a big plus

·         A Non-Disclosure/Non-Compete Agreement must be signed

Additional Info:

·         Telecommuting will be an option, with some on-site meetings/design review

·         Workstation and SolidWorks seat a plus, but not a requirement

·         May require some infrequent domestic travel

·         High quality workmanship may lead to permanent position

Please send:

·         Resume

·         Work examples (SW models/prints preferred or eprt/easm, .pdf or screen shots; do not share confidential data!)

·         Desired pay rate

·         Schedule availability (if not full time)

·         Workstation hardware specs

·         References if available
